cirque.

how can i express my love for the circus even more?
not those cheesy ones (i won't name names).
i'm talking cirque du soleil! i'm talking lucent dossier!
performance! costumes! make-up! music! mystique!

here's some inspiration from fashion156 (a few issues back).

typical clowns scare me. you know, the candy-striped cheap cotton pants...red foam nose... whiskey breath.

creative clowns inspire me. feathered lashes. sequined bodices. tailored velvet jackets...cotton candy hair.

this chair...

makes me want to sit in it sipping my chai, with a book by francesca lia block so i can reminisce about my early teens.

her writing was always so magical to me, and now this chair has me going head over heels.

color.

it's always interesting to see others obsess about color. color is everything, but then again, color is nothing...depending on the context. when i look back at pictures from my youth, i notice that i never obsessed about wearing just pink. it didn't make me feel more girly. hell, if anything i played with dolls during breaks while playing football and kickball.

JeongMee Yoon is a photographer based in Seoul, South Korea. She has this photo series where she documents children and their pink or blue collections. it's astounding to see that there are a lot of kids who stick to one color. i'm interested in the psychology of it and the ways that femininity and masculinity are pushed towards children in our society. boys wear blue. girls wear pink. while yellow and green are generally regarded as "safe" colors when shopping for baby and toddler clothing, it seems yellow leans more towards femininity and green for the boys.

that's the way it goes it seems. let's get soem avant-garde baby clothing. some onesies with flair.

visit her website for more (www.jeongmeeyoon.com) trust me, there are many more.

Brussels---I Dig!

so brussels was awesome. i mainly played the tourist card, except i didn't go on one of those cheesy bus or bike tours. i'd rather huff it anyday and see what i see. along my travels on foot, i spotted some crazy shit, amazing cathedrals (you've seen one, you've seen 'em all right?), and ate some yummy frites with mayo and ketchup. naturally i'd venture off to have my belgian waffle and beer as well. the crazy shit i DID see and for once in my life was afraid to catch it on camera was some random goth kids with enough spikes to make Goodyear cringe, scare off these japanese tourists. i knew they were from japan from the "i heart japan" tee. luckily i knew my french so i knew to get the hell on before my black ass was another victim in their path.

found a record store than almost had me crying. i came across this limited press prince "sign o the times" press....45 euros!! what's that like $70?! i love prince to high heavens but i'm on a sincere budget. *wipes tear*

went to this street fashion photo show @ this fly gallery.

so here's some pics. all the pics from my voyage in brussels, etc will be added to my flickr when i get home. i dont have the patience now to hook it all up. it's like 12:17am here, officially nov 10 and i have to get registered with the police station in the morning. go figure. oh yea, if i didn't say it already, i'm in ljubljana now with my mom. she's been cooking like it's already thanksgiving. more on ljubljana later.

passport: check.

so this blog will be the destination for my guys and gals to check out the craziness of my travels for the next month and beyond.

if you don't know, my mom lives in Ljubljana, Slovenia so i'm going to go visit her and get some of that home-cookin' in my system. FOR A MONTH!

i'll be making stops in brussels, ljubljana, paris, italy, and croatia (maybe zagreb)...and hopefully antwerp b/c i just gotta get there and get some exclusive clothes. and a belgian boy. yum.

i'm uber excited and everybody knows how much i adore travelling. the only part i hate is lugging bags, which i tend to overload... and i hate that i'm not on baller status yet to where i can fly FIRST CLASS. a girl is still stuck in coach, for now, but soon come. soon come.

so i'll be updating with plenty of photos and videos of the action.

come back friday for updates. i leave wednesday. bisou bisou.

aug 20--nyc.

i wish i was up top for this...
if ur up there, roll thru loves.

nights of partying.

in the past 2 weeks i've been in NYC.
my favorite ex boyfriend came to visit...and is now an uncle to one of the most beautiful lil girls.
still loved by his fam, and it's a good feeling. i havent met current boo's fam.

and this past week, starting with Hasan's arrival, i've been partying till well past the break of dawn.
between it all i've realized a heap of shit.
for one, i have a potty mouth and i know i've gotta clean it up, but i love the word "shit". it's probably one of my most used nouns.
i've also realized some things just are meant to be.
some people will always be there, some won't.
some ppl just don't click like they should and u can't always force it.
i've realized i'm an animal.
i love a good martini. and a stiff anything really :)
i realized how much i miss listening to music with Hass. He devours music like I do and gets excited and it feels good to be around ppl like that.

i've just realized, ya know?

time waits for no man and it damn sure isn't waiting for me. its goin by so fast and i need to stay on this track.

i'm over ranting right now.

pics---soon come.

to my NY heads...

i'll be in NYC next week for a couple days.
the 22-25th to be precise. let's build. let's link.
i'll be scouting for my documentary so if u can help in any way, that'd be AWESOME.

gasp! dwele vs. broke & boujee

next thursday is gonna be crazy.
dwele is performing @ sugarhill (get tix @ ticketalternative.com)
and broke & boujee's joint is going down @ 5 spot.

what's a girl to do? smash both.

and get dwele's album too. it's dope.

dubelyoo did it.

my pops and i have just started collecting our fave obama pics. i found one the other day on the new yorker website (below)...he reminds me of malcolm x in this photo (like i knew X personally). he just has this confidence and cool air about him and i'd love to have him as my president.

dubelyoo (www.occasionalsuperstar.com) designed this and it's goin on the wall fam.

koushik.

good news from the stones throw camp.
koushik (pronounced co-shik) is releasing a new album in september with a digital release in august.
i love koushik because he has this sound that makes me feel like i'm doing drugs in palm springs eating cookies i baked prior.
it's that real.

so i'm excited about the album nonetheless because if it has that dusty record player vibe i've been missing then bring it on baby. and his voice is like spreading butter on a biscuit on the beach...smooth and unexpected.

also, go download the latest stones throw podcast so u can score some free koushik love.

let's get sloppy baby.

if you're in my city this weekend, shoot over to MJQ for the sloppy seconds jumpie.

should be nuts as always.
bring your game face cuz chris (the midnight socialite) is gonna be shooting.

i'll be there.

under the same moon

i championed this film when i saw it in the theater earlier this year. when i say it's emotional, it's emo-shun-ull!!

i cried at the trailer alone and i'm usually not a fan of the tears. I guess here recently i've been a bit more prone to the soft touch of emotion.

it's the story of a boy who lives in mexico with his grandmother. his mother is in los angeles illegally trying to work and of course provide a better life for her son. his grandmother dies...he's determined to find his mother....and the obstacles...and the love... and the acting...and the beautiful setting. overall i loved it and i give it 5 out of 5 stars. it makes you feel so much closer to your mom and it makes you realize that we should be willing to move mountains and cross oceans for our mothers.

here's to you mom!

go cop it @ your local media outlet. it's worth the purchase.

why diddy is a rapist.

so last night i had a little chat with zano as we were watching the "sex: revolution" doc on vh1...

until that dayum commercial for diddy's new reality show came on. A NEW REALITY SHOW??! YOU WANNA WORK FOR DIDDY??

*slams phone against the wall*

when i say that i'm sick of him, i really am over his tired ass. simply b/c he's a rapist in the worst way. you know how they make child predators and shit have a sign in their front yard stating their sin?? well, diddy should have one as well. like, i'm talking even helicopters should fly the banner around saying it too. write it in the sky while ur at it.

he makes a living now off humiliating people on television and i guess if i were hungry for a career on the bottom rung of the music industry i'd buy into it, but i can't. he hasn't had a consistent artist since biggie, not including himself. yea u could say danity kane didn't do half bad this go round but let's peep the 3rd album. he's dicked everyone from faith to mary to the lox. he's literally taken the exact same classic songs and added his own lyrics and claims the production. bullshit. everytime i hear kashmir by led zepp i get upset. it's a fave song but diddy stains my mind when i try to sit back with some good herb and vibe to robert plant's woozy voice.

damn u diddy.

i dunno. let me cease my rant before some bad boy street team members come kickin in the door wavin' 4-4's and the new diddy biography.

til then suckers.

quick update.

so i've been a little missing in action with good reason. i honestly enjoy doing this blog and trust me, you'll see some changes coming very soon. also, my portfolio site will be arriving in the coming weeks as well. it's basically my portfolio of all the creative stuff i involve myself with...
+ photography
+ styling
+ sketches n doodlez
+ film lovin.

so stay tuned baby bubbas.

i was in miami and hollywood florida for july 4th weekend. i took a load of pics and lost some miami ones as well but it's all G. i'll upload those as soon as they're back from the printer. me and the 35mm are lovers.

i'm hyped.

so a few days ago i got the chance to peep the new lloyd and lil wayne video "all around the world". the song has been around for a minute, and the video is an amazing companion piece. a goal of mine is to direct music videos and breath some of the fresh air "up there" with hype williams (the director of this fly joint), spike jonze, diane martel, etc.

soon come.

my boy chris says, "i want bad robot bitches :("
and u know what chris, i do too. and any girl that says she doesn't...well that skanky bitch is LYING!!!
bad robot bitches for everybody. even the children cuz the lawd knows, they need a prayer and a new song from stevie.

hype, u slay me and i love it every single time.

ladies first: patrice rushen.

sometimes the ladies don't get enough shine.
one of my favorite artists of all time is patrice rushen.
her distinct voice, her music, her grooves, her album covers.

listen to these tracks and tell me you don't feel like loungin with a doobie.

Where There Is Love - Patrice Rushen
(sampled for song in previous post)

Settle For My Love - Patrice Rushen

Havent You Heard - Patrice Rushen

Remind Me - Patrice Rushen
"Remind Me" always makes my heart flutter. A definite two-step joint. I cut rugs to this joint.

2 songs @ the core.

how can u NOT like these two tracks? i miss 90's hip hop.
for real.

Lyrics to Go

Temperature's Rising

we blast slugs homie.

Now I wanna read up on slug's sex lives! Crazy interesting.
Too bad I wasn't in LA to peep this FREE lecture and concert.

(swiped from http://machineproject.com/2008/05/06/slugsandmusic)

“A slug’s life: sex, color, and new species in the sea” by Patrick Krug
and!
A concert by Fol Chen

Far from your garden-variety, sea slugs are vividly colorful animals that display stunning adaptations to life in the ocean. While snails cower inside cumbersome shells, evolution has freed the slugs to cruise the sea in safety, sporting spectacular warning colors to signal they are not to be trifled with.

Some feed with impunity on poisonous animals, concentrating toxins or stingers from their food into their own bodies for defense. Others are the ultimate vegetarians, incorporating living parts of seaweed cells into their bodies, allowing them to live directly off of sunlight.

Patrick Krug studies them as a way to understand how new species form in the sea, and how global warming causes range shifts among coastal organisms — but mainly, he’s drawn to their dramatic sex lives. Patrick’s talk will explore the world of frustrated virgins, slug swingers, and inappropriate sex between species, illustrated with videos and slides sure to shock the more prudish of terrestrial vertebrates.

jeebus kryse.

peeped this black family next to us, and mad was i soooo proud to see that shit. it was a mom and pops, their young son (think 8-11 yrs old) and she had one in the belly!!! At a RADIOHEAD CONCERT!!! man, that's me in 10 years. except, well, i won't have an 8 yr old already.
