as i swoon.

for once in my life i truly feel like i'd have sex with a room.

A ROOM!!

Pentagram Architects designed this dope ass, fly ass, sexy ass home theater taking inspiration from Radio City Music Hall and 2001 A Space Odyssey

The theater has a series of round arches, which house 600 five-watt dimmer-controlled light bulbs that provide a light for when you need to find the remote control. And as in the Music Hall, the lights are positioned to glow away from the viewers. Pentagram has designed the theater to function like a TV room, but can also easily accommodate up to ten people. All of the surfaces in the room are covered in orange felt to help with the acoustics, and seating on the floor has been taken care of by Edelman Leather who custom made the beanbags. This house, which also boasts a large private outdoor space looking onto the Atlantic Ocean, recently won an American Architecture Award for distinguished buildings and a Citation for Design in the AIA New York State Design Awards.

erykah badu- me
*sigh*
i miss dilla. this makes me feel like he's standin' right next to me.
that's all i really wanna say... and feel like sayin.

janet jackson- can't b good
maybe i like this b/c it's wishful thinking that i'll geta good michael jackson track this year. yea i still have faith in michael. and you gotta love janet cuz she's only the BADDEST BITCH ON THE BLOCK!! a pretty sexy groove.

madvillain- america's most blunted (koushik rmx instrumental)
i chose the instrumental b/c this is one of my favorite songs and koushik killed it on the production end. i just wish it was longer...i'm a length fiend.

BONUS!!!
a tribe called quest- lyrics to go
how can u NOT like this classic track. and the fact that it samples one of my favorite breaks and songs(minnie riperton "inside my love") makes me love it even more.

apirat infahsaeng.

Apirat is a pretty dope visual artist and designer. he does a lot of self-initiated work as well as work for corporations and what have you. his work is pretty fluid and i love that. he's up there with chuck anderson (no pattern www.nopattern.com)

**and two of my faves!

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days.

I hated this movie. Plain and simple.
I paid $6 to watch a shit storm of a movie. Why did this get the Palme D'Or @ Cannes?
Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about "art" and "creativity" and the moving image but his film was slow.
Very slow.
I fell asleep twice.
There was a shot that lasted 3 minutes of my life (a boring shot @ that).
When I think about it now, the beginning was so effing pointless and...

*takes breather*

I just hated it that's all. My roommate also brought up the fact, "You fell asleep on Persepolis too. And the Savages."

I hated both of those movies too. She loved them.
I'd like to think I have great taste in films but those three movies are not worth seeing to me. What kills me is that AFTER i left the movie EARLY, I read the synopsis in the Midtown Art Cinema Movie Guide and I got pissed off even more. They called it "riveting" and a "thriller"...

Thrill these.

I digress.

I hated it.

if you're in LA.

go check out this event being held @ the very cool, very smashing
EVIL MONITO STUDIO.

songs for the day feb.22

WELCOME TO SAMPLE LOVELAND.
---------------------------

george duke- someday
i'm sure you can easily guess which song kanye sampled this for on common's latest album. quick hint, see below...

common- break my heart
my favorite track off "finding forever"...quite possibly b/c he intentionally tried to mimic dilla. such a great sample. i approve kanye, i approve.

jeff lorber fusion- rain dance ('79)
so clear as day....

lil kim & lil cease- crush on you
i just had to hit the video for it.

caesar frazier- sweet children
did kanye do ANYTHING to this sample? so blatant. i don't approve. but eh, give ya a peck for effort.

common- real people

dreams of fu*kin sonny.

so i just woke up from a dream where i was clearly in a relationship with james franco and i was a secret vegas showgirl. and our love affair was not approved by my grandmother (who wasn't my real grandma in my dream). and we passed by one of those mall pretzel shops and took tons o' samples and... well, yeah. i was supposedly trying to escape from somewhere. whatevs.

dreams really are suppressed feelings and thoughts. i dreamt about james franco most likely b/c he's UBER HOT and me and the man were watching "sonny" last night. the showgirls business probably came from me thinking about it yesterday at some point, "damn, i'd really dig being a showgirl for a day or two."
true ish.

i know, i know, RANDOM, but who the ____ cares?! i posted the trailer for sonny. nicholas cage's directorial debut. not a bad film. maybe i'm biased.

thecoolhunter book.

when it drops in april, i'll get my copy for sure. from that same people that bring you one of the best trend/design/travel/inspiration sites around, they've decided to drop a book on the coolest hotel rooms. i have a fascination with hotel rooms and their design. and i'm not talkin holiday inn baby. i'm talking boutique hotels. the good shit.

chanel and zaha hadid team up.

just visit the website. all i have to say is, damn. two people i adore (hadid and lagerfeld). two talented individuals team up for art's sake and it makes me all furry inside. i'm not posting a pic b/c their website for it is too sexy. visit it.

http://www.chanel-mobileart.com/

(from psfk)

With Karl Lagerfeld at the helm, Chanel is doing some pretty interesting stuff, but obviously never losing sight of reminding us how great they are in the process. The latest venture of the venerable fashion house is something called “Chanel Mobile Art,” a traveling exhibition featuring pieces by 20 contemporary avant garde and up-and-coming artists, in which all of the pieces are inspired by the iconic Chanel quilt bag.

The exhibition will begin in Hong Kong on February 27, then travel around the world to Tokyo, New York, London, Moscow, and Paris — except it’s not only the art that moves, but the museum structure itself. And the pop-up “Art Container,” as it’s called, was designed by none other than Zaha Hadid. Lagerfeld describes the concept thus:

“Nobody did that before, eh? Nobody made a museum what can travel. Normally people have to travel to the museum. This time, it is the museum that is traveling. I think that is a very new concept….I think design and architecture are the real art of today.”

nights of cabiria.

so lately i've revived my love for "nights of cabiria" which i personally think is fellini's best film. giulietta masina is one of my favorite actresses anyway, and her performance in this movie was sincere, comedic, and heart-breaking. besides the fact that she can dance (see video), she's an influence. if you've never seen it, i implore you, go rent it. buy it. hell i still need to buy it. it's the epitome of a woman being hurt but never broken and i love that.

songs of the day feb 11 &12!

(i apologize in the delay for yesterday's songs. kinda bizzy day.)
the jones girls- nights over egypt
classic dance track. this is that song that you'll dance with your drunk uncle (drunkle if you will) to. i mean, it's not TOP NOTCH singin but the jones girls weren't half bad. it's just that funky ass beat...one of those songs that makes you scrunch your face up while u dance cuz it's just so dayum funky. why do we make that face exactly??

astrud gilberto- photograph
one of my fave bossa nova songs. it's a pretty dreamy song and her voice is as soft as a quiver in the wind whispering sweet-nothings. lol. i'm sorry i had to do it with that description. it's kinda short but a lot of her songs are. this is one of the songs that prompted me to dream about learning portuguese.

teena marie- casanova brown
since we were talking about "portuguese" (in my best teena marie voice: i wanna por-tu-gee-say!)...i moved over to casanova brown. one of my top fave 3 teena songs. she kills this song. i get emotional every time i sing it. you just feel the energy and the heartbreak she's going through. lyrics like, "you didn't have to make me cry/ tell me daddy i'll ask you why/ it's over", they get me. this is my shower song. so good i had to post it. @ 2:31 she's breakin it on down and keeps it there. listen to the entire track, and if you don't get chills or shake your head in that "damn that girl can saing" then you should check your pulse.

georgia anne muldrow- unreleased track
upon first listen i wasn't really feeling it. it grew on me. i dig her anyway, she's an ill chick...especially the fact that she makes her own beats. excellent!

curtis mayfield- kung fu
another funky ass muthafucka. curtis, baby, you did it with this one. that bassline is so ill. and that classic raspy, high, curtis voice can transplant you to 1976 anytime. nuff said. kick a sucka in the head just cuz.

stereolab- come play in the milky night
one of my fave stereolab songs. so melodic. the soft "oooooooo-ooooo" @ the beginning makes me wanna dream all day of strolls in paris drinking a glass of wine with a beautiful stranger. dilla sampled this for a busta song, "show me what you got". that's the bonus audio for the day.

BONUS!! BUSTA RHYMES SHIT!!

J*DaVeY.

I was just in a J*Davey mood (when am I not) and I figured I'd put you on to a performance they did here in Atlanta back in the summer of 2006. I missed the show but you bet your sweet ass I won't miss the next. The vid below has my favorite intro to "private parts" on it. It's such a sexy vibe, and I love songs with a sexy vibe. Don't you?

IPRC.

The INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING RESOURCE CENTER is the greatest place on earth in my eyes right now. They say they:
"facilitates creative expression and identity by providing individual access to the resources and tools for the creation of independently published media and art. Since 1998 the center has been dedicated to encouraging the growth of a visual and literary publishing community by offering a space to gather and exchange information and ideas, as well as to produce work”.
C'mon who doesn't wanna study and create in this place/space? When I went on the website I looked at their cool course offerings (some free, all cheap) and I was upset I wasn't living in Portland right now. Every city should have a creative mega-spot like this. You can use the workspace and equipment for only $5 an hr...and they offer a variety of workshops mainly for publishing, self-publishing, and printing. You can hold group meetings here and just build with fellow art kids.
Additionally they have their own library, yea I said it. The library is the home of more than 5,500 self-published books and guides on publishing, art, how-tos, criticisms, and thoughts. Nice.

mister lonely.

An interesting and weird (score!) little film by Harmony Korine. It's about a Michael Jackson impersonator and a Marilyn Monroe impersonator who jet from Paris to a so called impersonator's utopia in Scotland. trippy. There's a limited release in April...wanna join me?
http://misterlonely.gyao.jp/

i'll be there. will u?

the art direction for this is effing zonkers!!! kanye, let's build. i love black creatives.
i'm amped like a guitar @ woodstock (rip).
speaking of NERD....everybody nose. and that's all i'll say.

coming soon.

songs of the day feb 8.

SA-RA CREATIVE PARTNERS DAY

sa ra creative partners- hangin by a string
this isn't as spacey as "timeless continuum" (see below) but it has elements. it's basically an instrumental.

sa ra creative partners- and if
there's so much i could say about this song. it's the theme song for one of the feature scripts i wrote. the feeling i get is pretty yummi...hot summer day in harlem...short shorts...fly ass kicks...and a bathing suit playin in the fire hydrant with the neighborhood sexies. this song is too short for my taste and i always like to play it from the beginning (which is actually the end of "so special").

sa ra creative partners- timeless continuum
so spacey. so funky. it's on repeat in my spaceship (fyi: i really do have one, lol).

songs of the day feb 6.

cheri dennis- i love you
-i know some of my music loving homies will smack me for this track, but i dig it. even though i think i could've sung it better(real talk), but it's all good. i'm a melody whore.

the sea and cake- civilise
-i adore sam prekop. if he asked me to marry him i'd say yes so he could sing me to sleep. one of my all-time fave singers. kind of whispery, but manly. a fluid voice. he's definitely hot too.

sam prekop- magic step
-since i raved about him so much (yum!), i had to do it. this song is funky and chilled out at the same time. makes me wish i was in chicago heading towards the outskirts.

leave it to four fly scandinavian women to design some of the sleekest products around.
www.frontdesign.se

i want this divided drawer set now!

songs of the day feb 5.

tracey lee- the theme (it's party time)
-a classic party song. the video had so much energy. this gets you outta that chair and onto the dancefloor jumping around like it's 1997 again. don't you wish?

jefferson airplane- white rabbit (live)
-the begiining makes you feel uber sexy. makes you wanna give the illest lapdance. Grace Slick's voice is as contralto as it gets. one of the baddest bitches for sure.

genesis- that's all
-i know, i know. typical genesis song, but it's my fave genesis song. phil collins was rigid but smooth. i always wanted to just see him cut a rug. the melody at the break "truth is i love you, all that i wanted to..." always makes me sing along.

i'm baaack.

i love these yellow doors.

i love buildings like this when they colorize it and funk it up. so euro.
(pics in DC near Howard.)
so my little vay-cay in DC and NY was pretty chill. i of course got into a few shenanigans, but for the most part it was good to hang with my mom and get my mind right. my next vacation will undoubtedly be on a beach, thank goodness. i didn't get a chance to hit the museums like i wanted and snap flicks of street art (fave pastime), but there will be a next time. soon.
