be kind rewind.

this is a movie i've been actively waiting for. it's michel gondry's latest endeavor starring mos def as Mike, and jack black as Jerry, it's making it's humble debut at sundance. the premise of the story if you haven't heard is like this. the two work at a vhs-only rental store, some catastrophe happens that wipes out some of the tapes, and the two (black and def) decide to recreate the film favorites....all while telling the clientele the films are swedish imports. luckily for them, everyone digs the new versions.

now if you've seen gondry's past work (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, the science of sleep, human nature, etc.) you know his vision as a filmmaker is pretty dreamy and rock solid. he's one of my favorite directors, up there with godard and kubrick, in that they create complete worlds within each film. he sucks you in and once the film is over, you find yourself floating around in a worls similar to his, only you're the star in this one....or is that just me?

danny glover co-stars in this comedic masterpiece.
