too young. too soon.

HEATH LEDGER

BRAD RENFRO

this post is dedicated to two men who lost their lives this month...brad renfro (25) and heath ledger (28). it hurts me especially because as an upcoming filmmaker, these were two talented gentlemen i desperately wanted to work with. right up there with tom hanks, bill murray, robert downey jr, and paul reubens. the thing i particularly liked about renfro and ledger is that they were THEMSELVES. they carved out their careers on their own terms. yes, brad had his troubles with the law and drugs, but he was a gritty, organic soul of an actor. heath wasn't trying to get crazy paid in hollywood. if the film he appeared in jumped off, then cool. my thing is this: i love actors who think and go outside of the box with choosing their roles. i feel as if i identify with them in the respect of shunning the over-the-top, phony glitz of hollywood for a more subdued creative outlook on life and my craft. they always inspired me. from renfro's performances in "bully", "the client" and "apt pupil". to heath's in "i'm not there" and "brokeback mountain"...even "candy".
my heart truly hurts, and i'm sure their respective families feel it the most. it's been a sad month, but we've gotta trudge on. for the sake of life, and for the sake of film as an artform. now, more than ever, it's time to live and love.
